Hard Run at Priest Lake
In
February 2003, BISS Am/Can Ch. Wolf River's Moonlight Ridge* (Lightning,
on your left) and Ch. Wolf River's Thunder Cloud** (Nimbus,
on your right) ran in the 3 Dog Sprint class at Priest Lake, Idaho. This was
their first race with a dog sled. Of the 10 teams entered, our dogs were the
only two dog team. Everybody else ran three dogs.
Lightning & Nimbus were 3rd Place despite being the team with the fewest dogs. Their average speed was 14.8 MPH which made it fun to hang on to the sled!
Our Samoyeds raced primarily against 3 dog Alaskan Husky teams, but there were also a few Siberians, and one Samoyed team in our class. A fellow musher called our boys the "Smoking Sammies" just prior to the start of our second heat race. These boys are getting respect in the racing circles!
This race nearly completed Nimbus' Working Samoyed Excellent (WSX) title. Our youngster earned his points while Backpacking, Excursion Scootering & Sledding, and Race Skijoring Scootering & Sledding. Lightning and Nimbus are the ISDRA Champions in the 2-Dog Gig class for the 2002-2003 and 2003-2004 racing seasons. Earning a top placement with the International Sled Dog Racing Association is a very rare achievement for a purebred team, and was a breed first for Samoyeds.
