Lightning & Nimbus 2-Dog ISDRA Champions!
We
took to the races in November 2002. BISS Am/Can Ch. Wolf River's Moonlight Ridge* (Lightning,
on your left) and Ch. Wolf River's Thunder Cloud** (Nimbus,
on your right) competed in the 2-Dog class at the Club Mud and Turkey Trot
races. They are shown blasting off from the starting line at Club Mud (thank you
Judy Carrick for taking this nice picture). This was Nimbus' very first race,
and Lightning's first non-skijor race.
Our boys were 2nd Place out of eight teams at Club Mud. averaging 12.5 MPH over the 5 mile race. At the Turkey Trot race, Lightning & Nimbus were the 1st Place finishers, again out of eight competitors. Our team the 1st Place ISDRA 2-Dog Gig team in the world for the 2002-2003 and 2003-2004 seasons! Earning a top placement with the International Sled Dog Racing Association is a very rare achievement for a purebred team, and is a breed first for Samoyeds.
Our Samoyeds defeated Alaskan Huskies, Siberians, Alaskan Malamutes, Golden Retrievers, and a team of Pit Bulls. The duo were highly complimented by the other racers, many of whom were running 6 and 12 dog teams. We were so proud of them!
